Muzio Clementi was a celebrated pianist and composer. Born and educated in Italy, he spent most of his working life in London, where he taught and performed in concerts. He wrote mostly for the piano, and his list of works includes numerous sonatinas and sonatas such as this Sonata in G, one of a set of six published in 1790. Clementi’s music was stylistically somewhere between the Classical and the increasingly popular Romantic styles.
