Foehn

Foehn
A foehn is a warm, dry wind that blows down the leeward (or sheltered) slopes of a mountain ridge. This wind is created when air cools on its ascent of the mountains windward slope and is warmed on the leeward descent due to the compression of the descending air. The warming wind on the lee side has a warmer temperature than occurred in the same air on the up-slope
