Claude Debussy

Claude Debussy
Claude Debussy was a pivotal composer in the music of the 20th century. As a musical personality strong enough to stand up to the all-pervading influence of Wagner in the late 19th century, he rescued French music by finding a way of combining its subtler harmonies and glittering, carefully shaded instrumental colours with Wagner’s chromatic and darkly orchestrated music. Debussy’s piano works have a brilliance and imaginative power that have made them part of the bedrock of the piano repertoire.
