Bülent Ecevit
Bülent Ecevit served as Prime Minister of Turkey on five occasions: 1974, 1977, 1978-1979, and 1999-2002. In July 1974, after a coup in Cyprus threatened to bring the country under Greek control, Ecevit sent in Turkish troops, ostensibly to protect the ethnic Turkish population there. Ecevit's opposition to the miltary government that seized power in 1980 led to his imprisonment on two occasions. His last administration was marred by financial crisis, when the value of the Turkish lira collapsed.
