Lord's Supper

This 16th-century painting of the Lord’s Supper by Bartolomeo Carduccio shows the institution of the sacrament at the Last Supper, on the night before Christ’s crucifixion. Christ presents his apostles with bread and wine as emblems of his body and blood. In Christian theology, believers eat and drink the bread and wine as tokens of their membership of a community that shares in the forgiveness of sins which Christ achieved through the sacrifice of his body and blood on the cross.
