Execution of the Duc d'Enghien

Execution of the Duc d'Enghien
Louis-Antoine-Henri de Bourbon-Condé, Duc d'Eghien, was snatched by French forces from his place of exile in Germany, and hurriedly tried and shot in March 1804. Napoleon had ordered this after hearing spurious reports that the Duc d'Enghien was involved in a plot against him. This hasty and ruthless act, committed before Napoleon had even become emperor of France, turned opinion in many quarters against him.
