Durdle Door, Dorset, England
Durdle Door, a well-known landmark of the Dorset coast in England, is a spectacular limestone arch projecting into the sea. Formed by marine erosion and of great interest to geologists, the arch is one of the main attractions of the Dorset Coast Path, part of the South West Coast Path. The famous Lulworth Cove is nearby. The name Durdle Door is variously derived from Old English words "thyrelod" (pierced) or "thirl" (to pierce), and first appeared in written records in 1811.
