Mikhail Lermontov
Mikhail Lermontov was an officer in the Russian army as well as a Romantic poet who explored the concept of freedom in his work. The descendant of a Scottish officer who served in the Russian military, one of his best-known poems, “A Wish” (1831), is about Scotland. Lermontov has often been compared to his predecessor, Russian poet Aleksandr Pushkin.
