John Ray

John Ray
The English naturalist John Ray carried out important early work on the systematic classification of organisms, later to be improved upon by the Swedish botanist Carolus Linnaeus. His innovative taxonomic methodology established species as the basic unit in botany and for the first time stressed the difference between monocotyledons and dicotyledons.
