Death of Abel

Death of Abel
Abel was the second son of Adam and Eve. When God accepted Abel’s offering but rejected his older brother Cain’s, Cain became jealous and killed Abel. This painting by Antonio Balestra (1666-1740) shows the corpse of Abel lying at the foot of the altar on which his sacrifice is still burning.
