Henry I

Henry I
Henry I, Duke of Saxony from 912, was chosen as king by the Saxons and Franks in 919. Through clever politics he soon achieved recognition by the Swabians and Bavarians, and he also won Lotharingia for the German empire. Through this and his victory over the Magyars in 933 he contributed decisively to the consolidation at home and the strengthening abroad of the still-developing empire.
