Henry VI

Henry VI
Holy Roman Emperor Henry VI (reigned 1190-1197) managed to weaken opposition among the electoral German princes by, among other things, taking the English king Richard the Lion-Hearted prisoner. However, his Erbreichsplan (hereditary empire plan) to create an Hohenstaufen empire that included Sicily ultimately failed. The picture shows a miniature from the Manessian manuscript dated around 1320 (University Library of Heidelberg).
