Arthur Schopenhauer

Arthur Schopenhauer
German philosopher and essayist Arthur Schopenhauer developed the philosophy of pessimism, which influenced his contemporaries as well as the future generations of epistemologists and existentialists. In his system, both reason and sensation are governed by the main living principle, the will. The unconscious yearning and striving remains in conflict with the conscious will, and they can only be reconciled through resignation and detachment, if at all.
