Representation of Perspective
Domenico Ghirlandaio, The Birth of Mary (1485-1490, Church of Santa Maria Novella, Florence). Taken from Scenes From the Life of Mary and St John the Baptist, Ghirlandaio’s fresco is made according to the principles of classical perspective (central perspective). All the perpendicular lines converge at a unique vanishing point, at the centre of the composition, thus creating the illusion of depth and dividing the space into multiple levels where each of the objects and protagonists of the scene appear.
