Comte de Mirabeau

Comte de Mirabeau
Honoré Gabriel Riqueti, Comte de Mirabeau, was born into an aristocratic family in Provence, in the south of France. He was one of the most indefatigable defenders of the National Assembly that was created in 1789, during the first stage of the French Revolution. Later he positioned himself as an intermediary between the people and the king, Louis XVI, though his efforts to set up a constitutional monarchy failed. This pastel portrait is by the French artist Joseph Boze.
