King Kong
This image of the giant gorilla King Kong on top of the Empire State Building from the 1933 film of the same name is one of the most famous in the history of cinema. Directed by Merian Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack, the film terrified cinema audiences of the time. Willis O’Brien was responsible for the special effects, which involved painstakingly manipulating small models and sets frame by frame to give the appearance of movement and greater size.
