Francis I was King of France from 1515 to 1547. He was renowned for his extensive fiscal reforms: he floated government bonds, punished royal fiscal agents who misappropriated funds, and twice reorganized the treasury. This portrait is attributed to Jean Clouet and is in the Musée du Louvre, Paris.
