| This coloured engraving, Battle of Austerlitz, shows the French/Austro-Russian encounter at Austerlitz (now Slavkov, in the south-east of the Czech Republic) on December 2, 1805. The French force, although smaller, was victorious and on December 26 the Austrians signed the Treaty of Pressburg in which they acknowledged Napoleon as King of Italy and conceded territory in Bavaria and northern Italy to France. This engraving is held in the Bibliothèque Nationale de France in Paris. | ||||||
