Oasis at Bahla’
The oasis town of Bahla’ in Oman is famous for its pottery. The fortress pictured here was inscribed on UNESCO’s List of World Heritage in Danger in 1988 to attempt to stop the crumbling of the edifice. Since then, the management of the site has improved and the fortress was removed from the Danger List in 2004. The citadel is surrounded by vast expanses of date palms and a 12-km (8-mi) long wall surrounds the settlement.
