Giorgio Napolitano

Giorgio Napolitano
Giorgio Napolitano was elected President of Italy in May 2006, despite a long career in the Italian Communist Party (PCI). During the 1970s Napolitano argued for a communism better adapted to Western Europe than the Soviet model—ideas that were adopted by the PCI's leader Enrico Berlinguer, and became known as Eurocommunism.
