Mosque in Rome

This mosque opened in Rome on June 21, 1995, the day of the summer solstice. The building, designed by Vittorio Gigliotti and Paolo Portoghesi, reflects the influences of traditional Islamic architecture. Rome, traditionally the centre of Roman Catholicism, accommodates people of many faiths and denominations.
