Windows Live® Search Results Phoenix Theatre, West End theatre, situated on Charing Cross Road, London. The Phoenix opened in 1930 and is one of the West End’s younger theatres. The first production there was Private Lives by Noel Coward. The theatre housed further Coward plays in later years as well as many productions of plays by William Shakespeare, and the works of a wide range of other dramatists, including Anton Chekhov, William Congreve, John Osborne, and Dario Fo. Actors who have performed at the Phoenix include John Gielgud, Vivien Leigh, Derek Jacobi, and Dustin Hoffman. The auditorium seats around 1,000.
