Nottingham Trent University, institution of higher education in Nottingham, central England. The university’s history dates from 1881, when University College was established; it became a polytechnic in 1970, and achieved university status in 1992. Some 24,000 full- and part-time students receive tuition on two campuses 6.4 km (4 mi) apart; one is in the city centre. The university is organized into nine faculties: Art and Design; Construction and the Environment; Economics and Social Sciences; Education; Engineering and Computing; Humanities; the Nottingham Business School; the Nottingham Law School; and Science and Mathematics. It is administered by a board of governors.
