It was introduced in January 2007 to replace the Sudanese dinar, which itself was introduced in 1992 to replace an earlier Sudanese pound. As at early 2007, 221.78 dinars equalled US$1. Currency is issued by the Bank of Sudan (Bank al-Sudan), which was founded in 1960.
