Sudanese Pound, monetary unit of Sudan. The Sudanese pound consists of 100 dinars. It was introduced in January 2007 to replace the Sudanese dinar, which itself was introduced in 1992 to replace an earlier Sudanese pound. As at early 2007, 221.78 dinars equalled US$1. Currency is issued by the Bank of Sudan (Bank al-Sudan), which was founded in 1960.
