Schilling, former monetary unit of Austria. The schilling consisted of 100 groschen. As at late 2001, 15.2224 schilling equalled US$1. The schilling was replaced on January 1, 2002, by the European single currency, the Euro, at which point 1 Euro equalled 13.76 schilling. The Austrian National Bank had authority over the schilling.
