Peseta, former monetary unit of Spain. The peseta consisted of 100 céntimos. As at late 2001, 184.1 pesetas equalled US$1. The peseta was replaced on January 1, 2002, by the European single currency, the Euro, at which point 1 Euro equalled 166.4 pesetas. The peseta was issued by the Bank of Spain (1829).

The Spanish peseta was also used in Andorra, alongside the French franc.
