Bath, The Most Honourable Order of the, order founded by George I in 1725. There are two orders. The military order is represented by a gold Maltese cross botonée enamelled in white. Each of the four angles displays the lion of England. In the centre there is a rose, a thistle, and a shamrock. The civil order is represented by a gold filigree oval containing a motto, and encircling the same device as the military order. The order is displayed on a crimson ribbon. Tria juncta in uno ('Three joined in one') is the motto. Women became eligible for the order in 1971. There are four ranks: Knight or Dame Grand Cross (GCB); Knight Commander (KCB); Dame Commander (DCB); Companion (CB).
