Encyclopedia Article

University of Warwick, institution of higher education near Coventry, central England. The University of Warwick obtained its royal charter in 1965 during a period of expansion in British higher education. Despite its name, the university is not in Warwick but instead is about 5 km (3 mi) south of Coventry. It is on a rural site of 290 hectares (720 acres), and the campus buildings are mainly examples of modern architecture. Warwick is organized into the four faculties of Arts and Humanities; Medicine; Science; and Social Studies. The university is governed by a council and chancellor.
