Windows Live® Search Results Korea Strait (Japanese, Chosen-kaikyo), channel of the north-west Pacific connecting the Sea of Japan (East Sea) in the north-east with the East China Sea in the south. It also separates south-east Korea from the Japanese islands of Kyushu and Honshu. The Strait is approximately 177 km (110 mi) wide, and contains the large island of Tsushima. The name is sometimes used to refer only to the 97 km (60 mi) of water west of Tsushima. The Strait was the scene of a heavy Russian defeat in the Battle of Tsushima Strait, May 27, 1905, during the Russo-Japanese war.
