Tamar BridgeTamar Bridge

Tamar, river, Cornwall and Devon, south-western England. It rises in northern Cornwall near the Bristol Channel, and flows south along the Cornwall-Devon border to join the English Channel at Plymouth Sound via a very unevenly indented 21 km- (13 mi-) long estuary, also known as Hamoaze. The estuary is crossed by ferry at Torpoint and by road and rail bridges (the rail bridge was designed by Brunel); Plymouth naval base and Devonport dockyard are on the estuary's banks.

The Tamar's length is 96 km (60 mi), navigable for about half its length almost up to Launceston. Its main tributaries are the Tavy, Lyd, and Ottery, and its drainage area about 1,510 sq km (580 mi).
