Sutton Coldfield is north-east of Birmingham, into which it was incorporated under the local government reforms of 1974. Now predominantly a residential suburb of Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield was originally an old market town arranged around the 971 hectare (2,400 acre) Sutton Park, formerly a private estate, today a park and recreational area. Sutton Coldfield has some light industry, but its economy generally is dominated by that of Birmingham. Holy Trinity Church in Sutton Coldfield is of architectural interest, and nearby is the 13th-century moated mansion of New Hall. Population (1991) 90,325.
