Windows Live® Search Results Mount Marcy, peak located in the Adirondack Mountains in north-eastern New York State. Mount Marcy has an elevation of 1,629 m (5,344 ft) and is the highest mountain in the Adirondacks and in New York State. Lake Placid, New York, which was the site of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympic Games, is 14 km (9 mi) north of Mount Marcy, and Lake Champlain is 38 km (24 mi) east of the mountain. The lower slopes of this rounded, granite mountain are covered with dense coniferous forests. Lake Tear of the Clouds, which is the chief source of the Hudson River, is at an elevation of 1,310 m (4,300 ft) on the south-western flank of the mountain. The Native American name for Mount Marcy was Tahawus (Cloud Divider).
