Apurímac, river, south central Peru. It rises in Lake Villafro, in the Andes, and after a northern course of about 805 km (500 mi), unites with the Urubamba River to form the Ucayali River, a headstream of the Amazon River. In the lower reaches the river is known as the Tambo or the Ene.
