Dniprodzerzhynsk, city in east central Ukraine, a port on the Dnepr River. Located in a region rich in coal and iron ore, it is a major industrial centre, producing iron and steel, machinery, cement, and chemicals. The city was founded in the mid-18th century as Kamenskoye and received its present name in 1936. Population 256,000 (2001).
