Gilbert Grosvenor (1875-1966), American geographer and editor, born in Constantinople (now İstanbul), Turkey, and educated at Amherst College, Massachusetts. In 1899 he became a director of the National Geographic Society and a member of the staff of the National Geographic Magazine, of which he was editor from 1903 to 1954. From 1920 to 1954 he was also president of the National Geographic Society. Under Grosvenor the society grew into a major organization for scientific research and sponsored extensive work in geography, archaeology, and anthropology, especially in the form of field expeditions.

His son, Melville Bell Grosvenor, and grandson, Gilbert M. Grosvenor, have also served the National Geographic Society and its magazine in a variety of functions.
