Al Ḩudaydah, also Hodeida, city, western Yemen, on the Red Sea. One of the principal seaports of the country, it is situated north of the strait of Bab el Mandeb and south-west of Sanaa, the country's capital. Exports include coffee and hides. The city was largely rebuilt after a fire in 1961, and its port facilities were improved and enlarged. A road linking Al Ḩudaydah and Sanaa was completed in 1961. Population 155,110 (1995 estimate).
