In the theatre, there remains a predominance of what is called “bourgeois” comedy by authors who had established themselves before 1975, such as Antonio Gala and Ana Diosdado. Playwrights who became known during the transition to democracy, for example Francisco Nieva and Fernando Arrabal, and who emerged after Spain became fully democratic, such as Antonio Onetti and Marisa Ares, also deserve a mention.
