Windows Live® Search Results Adélie Coast or Adélie Land, narrow segment of the mainland of Antarctica, lying between latitude 66° and 67° South and between longitude 136° 20' and 142° 20' East with an area of about 388,500 sq km (150,000 sq mi). The Adélie Coast is claimed by France and forms part of the French Southern and Antarctic Lands. Jules Sébastien César Dumont d'Urville, commander of a French Antarctic expedition, discovered the region in 1840 and named it after his wife.
