Windows Live® Search Results Cân Thỏ, city in southern Vietnam, on the Bassac River (Song Hau Giang), Mekong delta. The city is the hub of an important rice- and fruit-growing area. Industries include rice milling, sawmilling, the extraction of coconut-oil, and soap and cigarette manufacture. Situated in an area of Cochin China formerly dominated by the Khmer people, Cân Thỏ was captured by the Annamese in the 18th century and eventually became a part of French Indochina. Population 215,587 (1992 estimate).
