Windows Live® Search Results Diorite, name given to several closely related igneous rocks, usually grey or dark grey in colour. The rocks are crystalline, coarsely granular, and composed mostly of silica and alumina, with some iron oxides, lime, and magnesia. The most common species of diorite contain plagioclase feldspar and hornblende. Other diorites contain biotite, quartz, or various ferromagnesian silicates.
