Windows Live® Search Results Rashi (1040-1105), Jewish scholar and commentator, born in Troyes, France, and popularly known by the initials of his title and name, Rabbi Shelomoh ben Yishaq (Solomon bar Isaac). His chief works are his commentaries on the Babylonian Talmud and the Old Testament, especially the Pentateuch. His commentaries became widely known and influenced Christian theologians, including Martin Luther.
