Windows Live® Search Results Eifel, plateau, western Germany, in Rhineland-Palatinate, bordered on the south-east by the Mosel River, on the north-east by the gorge of the Rhine, and on the west by the Ardennes. A largely barren, moor-covered upland with extinct volcanic cones and craters, it has a high point of 746 m (2,447 ft) in the Hohe Acht. Deposits of lead and iron ores, now exhausted, were mined here from the Middle Ages until the 19th century.
