Windows Live® Search Results Peace, river in western Canada, 1,923 km (1,195 mi) long, part of the Mackenzie River system. It is formed by the confluence of the Finlay and Parsnip rivers in the Rocky Mountains of central British Columbia. The Peace River initially flows east into Alberta, where it follows a north-eastern course before joining the Slave River near Lake Athabasca. Bennett Dam (190.5 m/625 ft high), a major hydroelectric facility on the upper Peace River, impounds Williston Lake (1,660 sq km/641 sq mi), which is the largest lake in British Columbia. The river valley is the northern-most extension of the Great Plains agricultural region in North America.
