Grossglockner, also Glockner, mountain, southern Austria, in the Hohe Tauern Range (part of the Eastern Alps). The highest point in Austria, it rises to 3,797 m (12,457 ft) on the border between Tirol and Carinthia provinces. The Pasterze Glacier, one of Europe's largest, descends from the permanently snowcapped peak, and the Grossglockner High Alpine Highway (opened in 1935) crosses the Alps via the nearby Grossglockner Pass.
