Lake of Zurich, also Zürichsee, northern Switzerland. It is crescent shaped and has a length of 40 km (25 mi), a maximum width of 4 km (2.5 mi), and a total area of about 88 sq km (34 sq mi). Its maximum depth is about 140 m (470 ft) and its height above sea level is some 410 m (1,340 ft). The Linth River flows into the lake at its south-eastern end; the Limmat River, at the north-eastern end, is its outlet. Zurich is the principal city on its shores.
