Ethanoate or Acetate, a salt or ester of ethanoic acid (acetic acid). The salts are formed by reacting ethanoic acid with a base, such as a metal hydroxide; the esters by reacting the acid with an alcohol. The ester cellulose ethanoate (cellulose acetate), referred to commercially simply as acetate, is used in fabrics, fibres, and films.
