Albert II of the Holy Roman Empire (1397-1439), Holy Roman Emperor (1438-1439) and duke of Austria (1404-1439) as Albert V. He inherited the duchy in 1404 and in 1437 succeeded his father-in-law, the Holy Roman Emperor Sigismund, as king of Bohemia and Hungary. In 1438 he became king of Germany. Although recognized as Holy Roman Emperor, he was never crowned. During Albert's brief reign, the Poles invaded Bohemia, and the Turks invaded Hungary.
