Windows Live® Search Results Eugène Brieux (1858-1932), French dramatist, born in Paris. His first success was Artists' Families (1890; trans. 1918). He became one of the most prolific French dramatists, his work generally attacking social abuses of the time. Among his plays are La Robe rouge (1900; The Red Robe, 1915), about injustice under the law; Les Avariés (1902; Damaged Goods, produced in New York in 1913); L'Avocat (The Lawyer, 1922); and La Famille Lavolette (The Lavolette Family, 1926). His works formed part of the repertory of André Antoine's renowned Théâtre Libre.
