Map of Trent

Trent, rising in western England, south of Biddulph, Staffordshire. It flows south-east through Stoke-on-Trent to the Derbyshire border, where it turns north-north east, passing through Burton upon Trent and Nottingham and uniting with the Ouse River to form the Humber, about 60 km (37 mi) from the North Sea. It is 274 km (170 mi) long. Its upper course has a long history of industrial use in the towns it passes through, and several canals link it to other industrial centres, such as the Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation, which connects with Sheffield. The principal tributaries of the river are the Churnet, Dove and Derwent, all rising in the Peak District to the north, the Blythe, the Tame, and the Soar.
