Map of St Helier

St Helier, town and capital of the British Crown dependency of Jersey, on St Aubin's Bay, in the English Channel. It is a residential community, seaport, and popular holiday resort. St Helier is also the commercial and transport centre of the island, and is the location for most of the offshore financial services based on the island. An 11th-century parish church, Victoria College (1852), a museum, the late 16th-century Elizabeth Castle, and the early 19th-century Fort Regent are in the town. Royal Square in St Helier was the scene of a battle (1781) in which the French unsuccessfully sought to capture Jersey. Population (1991) 28,123.
